Singing Tree.

Steel, cable, wood, beech trees.

2005–2006.

This piece was commission by and hangs in the Michigan Legacy Art Park, in Thompsonville, MI. As wind moves the trees, the piece vibrates, and produces tones from the central chamber. The Chippewa Indians of northern Michigan believed that trees that made sound in the wind bore spirits, or Manitous, and so would leave them offerings. Manitous in Chippewa art were often depicted as diamonds.
